ROSE HILL PLANTATION

Lockerly Arboretum has commissioned LPC to complete a Conditions Assessment on the circa 1852 Rose Hill Plantation, located in Milledgeville, Georgia. Consulting services will include: extensive archival research, selective investigative removals, documentation of the building’s current exterior and interior conditions, identify building deficiencies, to make recommendations for future restoration and preservation treatment of the building, as well as future interpretation. The report will also create a phased prioritization schedule and create a capital budget to assist in long-term planning.

From the National Register Nomination: Rose Hill is significant at the local level of significance under National Register Criterion C in the area of architecture because it is an excellent and intact example of the Greek Revival style and the Georgian house type in Baldwin County. The house is representative of both the architectural style and house type as defined in the statewide context Georgia’s Living Places: Historic Houses in Their Landscaped Settings. According to the context, Greek Revival style was the first architectural style to appear statewide in Georgia, and while the style is expressed through many variations, Rose Hill embodies almost all of its identifying features.
